Financial Stability Center in Lynn

Bringing critical services during a time of economic crisis
At the height of the recession in 2009, the first United Way Financial Stability Center opened in Lynn, a community where 43% of the residents live below 200% of the federal poverty level, with an 11.3% unemployment rate. Powered by lead agency SPIN (Serving People In Need) and a partner network, the Center has already reached out to more than 500 families during its first year of operation.
Programs that promote economic empowerment and independence:
- Financial education and budgeting
- Tax preparation with emphasis on filing for the
Earned Income Tax Credit, one of the most effective
anti-poverty tools for low-income taxpayers - Assistance getting "banked" and establishing relationships
with financial institutions - Matched savings programs that help families
save for a home, education or small business - Basic and job skills to increase employability
