Home Visiting
Addressing at-risk children’s needs as early as possible is the most effective way to improve their chances for a successful future.
To respond to the urgent need for early intervention, United Way partnered with the private equity, venture capital and hedge fund communities to launch the Home Visiting Initiative in 2007. The initiative focuses on the first three years of life, bringing a high-quality continuum of critical services into the home of at-risk children in the Allston-Brighton neighborhood of Boston.
Benefits of Home Visiting
- Eliminates barriers (transportation, language, childcare) that prevent parents from seeking help.
- Enhances parenting skills and reduces parental stress.
- Promotes the optimal growth and development of young children.
- Safeguards children from at-risk homes and increases the chances that they will enter school socially, emotionally and physically ready to learn.
The initiative facilitates collaboration between established programs and agencies, minimizes duplication of services, fills existing gaps in service and ensures that all participants are incorporating researched-based strategies and practices.
