Answer the Call!
President Obama is calling on all Americans to make an enduring commitment to our communities. In summoning a new spirit of service, our president states, "Never has it been more important to come together in a shared purpose to tackle the common challenges we face."
As the Executive Committee of the 16th Annual Real Estate and Building Industry Breakfast, we feel strongly that it is important for us, as leaders in the industry, to embrace this new spirit of service and support the critical work United Way is doing in our communities. This year, we’re facing even greater challenges. It is only through a united effort that we will truly improve the quality of life for children and families in our region. We ask that you join us this year, as a Breakfast Committee Member, to build on the success of last year’s event.
As a committee, it is our goal to continue with our five-year commitment of raising an additional $200,000 every year toward United Way’s Housing First Initiative. Last year, United Way and their Housing First partner agencies helped 188 homeless families and placed 133 families in permanent housing – as a direct result of the dollars our industry has raised at our breakfast.
By leading the way as a Real Estate and Breakfast Committee Member you will help the most vulnerable among us during challenging times. Your role as a Committee Member will be to:
- Strive to raise $10,000 towards the event via individual or collective donations. Members contact their peers, colleagues and business associates/vendors to ask for their attendance and/or contribution. Please note: your company’s work-place campaign total can help you achieve this $10,000 goal. If your company does not currently run a workplace campaign, United Way will be able to help you start one.
- Attend the following committee meetings:
Friday May 1, 2009 -- 7:30-9:00 a.m.
Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership
125 Lincoln Street, Boston
September 18, 2009 -- 7:30- 9:00 a.m.
Location to be announced.
- Attend the 16th Annual United Way Real Estate and Building Industry Breakfast event: Friday October 30, 7:00 -- 9:00 a.m., Sheraton Boston Hotel
- Attend the Thank you/ Debrief event following the breakfast: November 2009; time & location TBD.
Many of your peers have already answered the call! Join us and them as we work to address the issue of ending family homelessness and improving the quality of life for all families in our communities:
