2009 Honoree Richard Main
Richard W. Main is President, Director and Chief Lending Officer of Enterprise Bank and Trust Company, a locally owned and managed full-service commercial bank highly recognized for its lending practices with small and medium sized businesses.
Mr. Main began his banking career at First Bank, in 1973 as Assistant Vice President. In 1976 he advanced to the position of Vice President and in 1980 was elected to Senior Vice President with major responsibilities in the area of commercial lending, commercial credit and new business development. Responsibilities included administration of the main office and six branch locations. In 1981 Mr. Main was elected to Executive Vice President and in 1988 elected to Chief Operating Officer and President. In 1988 he was named Chief Executive Officer.
In December of 1988, First Bank and Arlington Trust Company merged into Shawmut Arlington Trust Company. Mr. Main spent twelve months on administrative responsibilities in relation to the merger and deposit and loan conversions before leaving to join Enterprise Bank & Trust in January, 1989.
Mr. Main attended Suffolk University where he received an M.B.A. and Lowell Technological Institute, (B. S. in Business Administration).
A member of the Board of Governors of American Textile History Museum.
Mr. Main is President of the Designated Scholarship Committee of the Town of Chelmsford Scholarship Fund, Inc. He is active in the solicitation of items for the Paul Center Annual Auction fund raiser and is a committee member of the Saints Memorial Foundation Annual Golf Tournament. Instrumental in the success of the SEGL (Summer Experiences of Greater Lowell), a United Way Program as a fund raiser.
Mr. Main is a member of Vesper Country Club and Cape Arundel Golf Club and Webhannet Golf Club in Maine and spends his summers on Drakes Island, Wells, Maine.
