Tufts Health Plan created its Community Relations program to promote the health and well-being of communities throughout Massachusetts by providing support consistent with Tufts Health Plan's vision, values, and commitment to improving the health, not just of its membership, but of the general population. Tufts Health Plan's Community Relations program contributes to nonprofit organizations that provide direct health care, work to improve health conditions, provide community service, and/or contribute to the arts and cultural life of the community. Some examples of Tufts Health Plan Community Relations funding include:

In 2008, Tufts Health Plan established a foundation with the mission of promoting healthy lifestyles and the delivery of quality health care in our communities. The Tufts Health Plan Foundation awarded $2.5 million in its inaugural year to 65 nonprofit organizations throughout Massachusetts, all with a focus on promoting healthy lifestyles and the delivery of quality health care in our communities.

Tufts Health Plan encourages its employees to donate their time to charitable causes in order to make a difference in the community and provides an annual paid time off benefit for employees who volunteer. In expanding its volunteerism, Tufts Health Plan participated in the annual United Way Community Care Day in 2008, with more than 80 employees working together to improve the facilities of six local nonprofit organizations.

Through personal contributions and coordinated departmental efforts, the company's annual workplace giving program raised more than $47,000, benefiting the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, Community Works, and Community Health Charities of New England. This amount included a match by the Tufts Health Plan Foundation.
