BOSTON -- On the heels of news that more than 1,000 families in Massachusetts have overflowed the capacity of emergency homeless shelters and are instead living in motels paid for by the State, United Way today announced that the organization will invest $661,100 to advance the Housing First strategies of 13 organizations in Boston, Cambridge, Lynn, Lowell, Quincy and Somerville --communities that have all launched 10 year plans to end homelessness.  read more »

NEW ENGLAND -- Remember when a pizza only cost five bucks? On Saturday, October 17th, Sal's Pizza will be turning 20. To celebrate, the long-standing community restaurant will be turning back time on its prices, while raising funds to advance the common good. The restaurant, with more than 30 locations throughout the region, will roll back prices on its 19" cheese pizzas from $9.99 to $5.55 -- the price of a pie when Sal's first opened.  read more »

BOSTON- Wall Street wonder Carla Harris, Managing Director at Morgan Stanley Investment Management, author of Expect to Win, and newly  honored as one of U.S. Banker's Top 25 Nonbank Women in Finance, today urged more than 1,000 of the region's top women business leaders to "make giving back a part of your success equation."  Harris was the keynote speaker at this morning's United Way's Annual Women's Leadership Breakfast, which brings local women together through philanthropy to effect change in the lives of children, youth and families.   read more »
