The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers that provides vital relief to victims of natural and man-made disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. First mandated by Congress in 1900, the American Red Cross is the ONLY voluntary organization designated to respond to disasters with the mission of alleviating human suffering and helping those affected rebuild their lives.
