Volunteer through MSTi

Host a Site Visit:
Open your company doors to an after-school science club and give a child the opportunity to see firsthand what your work entails. Hosting companies are asked to: Give tour of workplace providing hands-on activities and interaction with various staff , underwrite the cost of transporting 10-15 kids to and from site visits at your company and provide refreshments (i.e. cookies and juice).

Requirements: Brief orientation and follow up sessions (approximately 30 minutes each), one or more afternoon during after school hours, provide transportation to and from your company and a snack for participants

Co-facilitate a Science Club:
Act as Co-Teacher once a week for the duration of the semester, alongside an MSTi after-school staff member. This opportunity gives employees an in-depth experience with the MSTi curriculum and allows for adult-youth relationship building over the course of the semester.

Requirements: Attend 3 hour training session, meet with science club once per week over a semester

One Time Opportunity
Be a guest at an MSTi after-school site. During this one-time visit, an employee or group of employees may participate in the “science club” hour to assist with an experiment or be ‘taught’ by the kids. Adults can informally talk about what drew them to science and/or technology, what they currently do at BD Biosciences, and offer suggestions and advice during the experiments.

Requirements: A one time commitment, during after school hours

Epals Program
Become a "Scientist on Call" - a question-answering guru for kids via e-mail. Questions raised during science club lessons will be collected and sent by an MSTi after-school staff member to employees. Employees will email answers back to the staff member who will then share the answers with the kids.

Requirements: A minimum of one face-to-face meeting with the after-school group is required in order to allow the kids to get to know the face behind the email.
